Just some thoughts about our crappy stock brake system: When I first purchased my baby about 10 yrs ago and the brakes were completely stock, I can remember just trying to have a little fun and not even being able to do a burnout if I wanted to, because the front brakes couldn't hold it. Now with SZ 2 piece slotted and vented rotors, Hawk HPS pads, stainless steel braided lines, a Brakemaster cylinder brace and Motul fluid, the cars stops a little bit better. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my master cylinder or if the Z32 master cylinder is just weak, because I'm fairly certain that my daily beater, 4500 lb, 2000 Xterra breaks better with its stock brake system. I can slam on the brakes at any speed, lock them up and come to a screeching hault. The Z has never been able to do this. The Z calipers just never seem to be able to deliver enough pressure to the rotors for a decent stop. If our master brake cylinder is simply weak, I wonder if a more modern master cylinder upgrade would help to improve the overall brake system on the Z32. I’m hesitant to just through on a set of big brakes or even just upgrade to the 13 front rotors out of fear that I will still be disappointed. Thoughts…
